An unexpected late summer promotion blitz for my novels

Since I'm taking a writing break while my third novel is being edited my marketing and promotion activities have increased, but not in a way that I noticed until I stated getting some traction. Taking a step back, it's something that I'm pretty happy about but wished I had done a better job of documenting what I did so I could either keep the momentum going or replicate it the next time there's a pause in manuscript drafting.
I've continued to prioritize podcasts and libraries (in terms of marketing and promotion), but have paid more attention to local book events as well. I started doing this after the great experience I had with the crew from TBR Trio. This project is focusing on indie and small press authors from the DMV area and highlighting them with professional photography and in-person interviews at local bookstores. I pitched them and was lucky enough to draw their interest. So a few weeks back I was at a local bookstore and being fitted with a mic and staring down no fewer than six cameras. It was a fun experience and made me feel a little bit like a rock stare when people came into the store and did a double take of the live interview happening. The video will be up on their YouTube channel in early Sept. When it goes live I will have a link in my Media tab.
While preparing for the interview I watched previous episodes, and one of them was with the organizer of the Book Fair in Bel Air. This was a real find for me because after checking out the website I discovered that several of the authors there this year were writing SFF books. That took me down the rabbit hole of researching these authors, their work, and more importantly how they were promoting themselves. I was able to find several other local book events and podcast opportunities through these writers. After sending out a few author interview requests I got a couple hits. We're working out the details for recording dates now, but I'm very happy that there will be a few more media things happening for me as we ease into the back half of 2025.
In terms of writing, there's been a little bit of outline creation for Book 4 (the last one that will complete Thorne's story). Perhaps more immediately important, there's been really good communication with my editor for Book 3. We've exchanged several emails to go over details, address questions, and overall I've been excited to geek out and get into the weeds about very specific aspects of the magic system. There's a few more weeks until I'll get the editorial letter and in-line comments, but overall I'm feeling very good about the process.
Thanks for stopping by.
